The Problem
David's current website was too restrictive and basic and a more crafted and integrated solution was needed.
David is a renowned illustrator who has worked with some of the world's biggest brands and reputable publications. His previous website had been a simple Cargo template that utilised sideways scrolling and, although Cargo offers a great platform for creatives, something more bespoke and considered would enhance the illustrations. It was also very important that David was able to seamlessly sell prints and products through the site so this was something to consider in the design and development.
The Solution
An elegant website with a fully integrated and easy to use Content Management System that truly reflects the quality of the work.
Whereas previously it had been very restricted, I developed a template that allowed for customisability; the user can easily upload a new project with one or multiple images and then choose two colours for that specific piece that are used in the styles on the page to compliment the artwork and to inject something unique onto each page.

I built the website on Wordpress and used WooCommerce for the shop. The plugin has great support and power over 37% of online stores worldwide and I found it very intuitive and relatively easy to customise to get the look I wanted. I also worked in a feature when uploading a new project that allows the Admin to link it to an existing product that I feel really brings the two sides of the site together.

With the website as a whole, both David and I wanted to make sure that it felt fluid and professional and I feel I achieved this through the use of subtle animations and clean transitions.
The lesson
The finer details enhance the bigger picture.
